Why not hike to the highest summit in the Gulf region, Jebel Shams? Jebel Shams translates as mountain of the sun, and although the military installation prevents you from reaching the true summit the south summit is still accessible (2997m). This trek provides panoramic views of the Hajar Mountains and the Grand Canyon of the Middle East (Wadi Ghul, 500m deep). This is a long, challenging trek (24 km) that takes 10-12 hours.
